With her research tagged “Cultural Problems in Translating the Word (Rain) in the Holy Quran into English”. Assist.Prof. Dr. Ibtihal Mahdi Abdul Karim, a professor in the Department of English Language at the College of Languages, University of Baghdad, participated in the 3rd International Conference on Modern Research Achievements in the Humanities, which was held recently at A’Sharqiyah University- Sultanate of Oman. The study focused on the problems in translating the term “rain” in the Holy Quran into English, indicating that Arabic and English are two languages with different cultural and linguistic specificities.
The researcher concluded that the translator face cultural and linguistic difficulties when trying to translate this term accurately with a deep understanding of the meaning intended in the Holy Quran. She added that the concept of (rain) in the Holy Quran goes beyond the literal meaning of the word, as it carries many symbols and cultural and religious connotations, and the translation process needs a delicate balance between retaining the original meaning and conveying the cultural message in an understandable way in the target language.
