Prof.Raghad Fahmi Aajami ,a professor at the Department of English, College of Education for Women, University of Baghdad  has published a Joint scientific research with: Daniah Mohammed Rahmah and Noor Ahmed Khedr ,students in the fourth stage ,Department of English Language , which is entitled : (A Cognitive Linguistic Study of the Present Simple: An Experimental Study in the University of Baghdad).In  this  research,  the  researchers  seek  to apply  the  theory of  (CG)  and  its  principles  when  teaching  the simple  present tense  to Iraqi students  who  face  difficulties in differentiating between the multiple usages of this tense. For this purpose, the researchers have conducted an experimental study on a group of 60 Iraqi students in the   University   of   Baghdad,   College   of   Education   for Women. Langacker’s theory  has  been  adopted  in the analysis of the  cognitive  relations to understand common  and  different  connections  of  the simple present tense.

The study has concluded that the cognitive grammar  theory  contributed  in improving  the participants’ capacity in comprehending and using the  present  simple tense, and in correcting  the grammatical  errors  that  they used  to commit.The students’ endeavor under the auspices of their supervisor had an effective impact in urging them to follow the way of scientific research and build their desire to find scientific results as well as enabling them to gain experiences and knowledge in developing their methodological skills in high level of efficiency and distinction in their field of specialty.
