The College of Dentistry at University of Baghdad has organized a scientific symposium entitled (AIDS: the silent crisis sweeping the world) that was administrated by Dr. Saliha Sahib Musa, in the presence of a number of faculty members, employees and students. The aim of the symposium was to introduce this serious disease to the public, which affects many people as a result of illicit relationships, blood transfusion or the use of syringes contaminated with this virus and to shed light on this acquired immune deficiency syndrome describing a number of potentially life-threatening infections and illnesses.

The lecturer then discussed how this disease is transmitted from infected people to members of society and how to avoid its causes by at first knowing the definition of the human immunodeficiency virus HIV which causes AIDS, its types any ways of transmission. The most important recommendations of the symposium is to deal with this issue seriously, as well as develop plans and programs to combat its spread, raise awareness and provide the necessary tests to detect this disease and ways to reduce it by taking some treatments that alleviate the severity of this disease with the participation of various medical and academic institutions and authorities concerned with prevention, health and control, whether government agencies, civil society institutions, or international organizations.
