The Scientific Committee for the English Language, in cooperation with the Postraduate Studies Division at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences has organized a course on (English Terminology for Sport Training Terminology) with the participation of doctoral students of the academic year (2022-2023). The course included a qualitative lecture on the terminology of sports training science in English and included the definition of science and the necessary terms for the coach when designing a training curriculum with the application of these terms using activity sheets and learning to read training cards and fitness and training magazines.
Then a sports film was presented that shed light on the principles of athletic training starting from readiness, individual responses and overload, with a focus on training methods such as circular and high-intensity interval training. All these principles of training have been linked to other sciences such as motor learning by focusing on mental training, sports psychology by taking mental toughness, sports sociology by taking the impact of race, especially the African athletes in boxing, as well as physiology, anatomy, injuries and rehabilitation matters.
A field visit was also made to the Iraqi Equestrian Club located within the campus of the University of Baghdad, including a lecture on horse training in terms of size, intensity, repetition, methods and equipment used in training, appropriate food for horses during the competition period, and the application of the principle of rest, recovery and warm-up. The students then watched horse training with riding to identify the differences between human and horse training while identifying the sciences involved in horse training and the challenges faced by the horse trainer compared to the human trainer.
