The Women’s Empowerment Unit at the College of Dentistry of the University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, has organized a campaign that lasted for 16 days to combat violence against women, entitled (Violence against Women) in which the head of the Women’s Empowerment Unit Prof. Dr. Ghada Ibrahim Taha and Dr. Zainab Ghaleb Al-Jassem gave lecturers, in the presence of a number of faculty members and college staff. The seminar aimed to introduce forms of violence against women and girls, and to call for effective action to reduce and eliminate the phenomenon of violence against women around the world.

The seminar also included the following axes: the definition of violence and its forms against women, its causes and how to address it legally and societally, as well as discussing the spread of the phenomenon of violence against women in Iraq, as well as discussing solutions to the phenomenon of violence against women and reducing it, as well as identifying methods and types of violence and psychological effects, and demanding the need to activate laws and legislation that support women, in addition to discussing the problem of protecting women from domestic violence in the light of international and Iraqi legislation. One of the most important recommendations stressed by the symposium is to empower Iraqi women by opening the fields of education and work for them and continuing awareness campaigns on the impact of violence against women on individuals, families and communities.
