The Department of Geography at the College of Education for Women, held a scientific workshop entitled “Water Security Challenges in Iraq”, in which a group of professors and postgraduate students gave lecturers, namely (Hala Muhammad Abdul Rahman, Jinan Abdul Amir Abbas, Suzan Abdul Latif Jabara, Nada Jawad Muhammad Ali and Kawthar Nassir Abbas).
The workshop aimed to identify the term of water security in its contemporary sense, developing a vision on the repercussions of Iraqi water security on food security, identifying the political and economic dimensions of Turkish water projects, and reviewing the treaties concluded regarding the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. The workshop reached at a set of recommendations, including working on developing accurate and clear water policies that represent current and future needs, negotiating agreements and laws that ensure equitable distribution of water, ensuring water shares for each country, as well as developing available resources with new measures.
