The College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad has recently organized a workshop entitled: Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) by Prof. Dr. Batool Hassan Hashim in the presence of a number of professors. The workshop aims to clarify and explain this technique which can be used in laboratories to diagnose a large number of germs. The lecturers stated that the PCR involves using short synthetic DNA fragments called primers to select a segment of the genome to be amplified, and then multiple rounds of DNA synthesis to amplify that segment, adding that this technology was first used by in 1988 to diagnose muscular dystrophy.
