Prof. Dr. Munir Hamid al-Saadi, the rector of the University of Baghdad, accompanied by the dean of the college of science, Prof. Dr. Abdul Karim al-Qazzaz, has inaugurated the first training weather station, the first of its kind at the college and university, which will be the nucleus of a research center concerned with climate studies and training purposes for students and researchers. During his speech, the rector stated that “We congratulate the good efforts exerted to complete this scientific training edifice, and we hope for developing a meteorological station concerned with weather forecast and seismic monitoring, stressing the university’s support for everything that keeps pace with the increasing scientific development in modern geological disciplines theoretically and practically”.

It is noteworthy that this event was attended by the assistant dean for scientific affairs, the head of the department of geology as well as other heads of departments, professors and specialists in this discipline, where such initiative will contribute to supplementing the disciplines of agriculture, navigation, atmospheric pressure, water resources, agricultural and geographical studies, energy engineering and other geological disciplines, as well as benefiting from them in the studies carried out by the faculty members of the departments of remote sensing, astronomy and space, physics and the remote sensing unit at the college or any scientific department or a research center at the University of Baghdad which may need such data that will be broadcasted via the college’s website daily for the common good.
