Assist. Prof. Dr. Esraa Muhammad Hussein, Assist. Prof. Dr. Lama Sami Ahmed and Dr. Noor Ali Khudair from the Department of Chemistry at the College of Science, have recently obtained the patent entitled “Anti-corrosion coating of iron surface in an acidic solution (1M HCl) using a new corrosion inhibitor prepared for Furan derivative (FMSPhDHT)” after fulfillment of the requirements required by the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control (COSQC).

The researchers aimed to prepare a new organic compound containing a Furan group, sulfur and nitrogen atoms for the diagnosis of the compound, using spectroscopic methods, in addition to studying the physical properties and the effect of the compound prepared as an inhibitor of carbon steel surface corrosion in the acidic medium (1 M HCl) using the method of measuring the polarization curve. The patent concluded that the new compound prepared for the (FMSPhDHT) derivative is characterized by a high inhibition efficiency due to its unique composition because it contains a Furan ring and a Triazole ring consisting of three nitrogen atoms and two sulfur atoms, which play a major role in increasing the inhibitability that can be used in protecting iron in a positive way, as well as providing high costs for maintenance and replacing parts damaged by corrosion, also its use in industrial facilities and research centers.
