The Department of Biology, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, has organized a lecture entitled “The Effect of Vitamin D on the BioSystem” in the presence of a number of students, researchers and those concerned with medical affairs. The lecture aimed to know the role of vitamin D on the various systems of the human body and the impact of the deficiency of this vitamin on them, as well as the mechanism of its manufacture and its various sources, and the extent of the impact of this vitamin on the general health of humans and the most important food sources of it.

The lecture was presented by Assist. Prof. Rasha Hussein Kubba, eho at first stated that the Vitamin D is one of the fat-soluble vitamins found naturally in a few foods, indicating that the vitamin is activated by the body to carry out hormonal activity (Cholecalciferol) noting that it can be obtained from nature through exposure to sunlight, and therefore it is also called the sunlight vitamin, stressing that it is not as essential as other vitamins, but it is necessary to be careful to obtain when having a sufficient exposure to sunlight, recommending the need to conduct periodic examination to measure the percentage of vitamin D in the blood.
