The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad held a scientific symposium entitled “Hormones and Obesity” that was delivered by the lecturer at the college of engineering the lecturer Ahmed Essam al-Assali with the aim to study obesity and the impact of hormones in increasing or reducing it, as well as reviewing the main hormones that directly contribute to increasing the accumulation of fat in the body, as well as reviewing the most important hormones that lead to reducing fat levels in the body.

The symposium recommended regulating hormone levels in the body and following up the changes that appear when measuring hormone levels, as in thyroid hormones, in order to prevent their interference with cases of weight gain, as well as getting enough time to sleep in order to prevent hormone disruption and maintain a healthy weight, as well as refraining from eating sugars or processed fats, since the high level of sugar in the blood leads to a rise in the hormone insulin and thus stop fat consumption and increase its preservation. The seminar stressed the importance of exercising regularly and increasing the amount of protein in food, thus increasing muscle mass, fat consumption and improving insulin resistance.
