The Department of Policies and Legislation at the Center for Women’s Studies, , held an electronic workshop on “Sustainability of the University Environment” and to clarify the idea of the workshop where a number of academics have participated in this event, including Prof. Dr. Wissam Ali al-Khalidi, who was a professor of modern Arabic literature and criticism at the College of Education for Women at the University of Kufa, on the subject of academic women and their impact on the sustainability of university life, noting that academic women are an important figures contributing in the sustainability of universities, so they had an impact on the educational outputs.

Then Prof. Sawsan Sabih Hamdan, a lecturer from the College of Basic Education at Al-Mustansiriya University gave a lecture in which she talked about “The University Environment between Reality and Ambition” aimed to show the most important components of the university environment and the obstacles that stand in the way of achieving a sound university environment. Prof. Dr. Samira Atwan,  from Al-Mustansiriya Center for Arab and International Studies, stressed the importance of the role of women in achieving development in society through her research paper entitled “The Role of Women in Community Development”. The workshop was concluded with a joint research paper submitted by Assist. Professor Dr. Saba Hussein Mawla from the Center for Women’s Studies, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Ghusoon Mizher Hussein from the College of Arts at Al-Mustansiriya University spoke about “Women’s Participation in Achieving Sustainable Development within the Framework of Higher Education” to call for the need for activating the role of women in achieving sustainable development goals through their role in higher education in light of the ongoing crises faced in the Iraqi universities, so we believe that the gender imbalance in university leadership is one of the factors that have become an obstacle to achieving sustainable development that all countries seek to achieve.
