The Department of Biology, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science held a lecture entitled “Protein engineering for the production of unnatural polypeptides ” in the presence of a number of students, researchers and those concerned with medical affairs.

The lecture aimed to introduce modern methods of protein engineering and how to reprogram the genetic code for the purpose of merging unnatural acids and thus adding new chemicals to proteins that do not exist in nature, for the purpose of using these genetically engineered proteins for various purposes. The lecture was presented by Dr. Husam Sabah for highlighting the conception of protein engineering, which is a valuable technique that deserve to be studied thoroughly for the production of improved proteins with desirable properties using DNA reunion technology, and modification after protein translation or a combination of both, indicating the possibility of using this technique that is depending on the use of abnormal amino acids to be improved rapidly and transformed into good proteins.
