The Department of Biology, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, has organized a scientific lecture entitled “Parasite Databases” in the presence of a number of students, researchers and those concerned with this topic. The lecture was presented by Assist. Prof. Dr. Amjad Qais Ibrahim with the aim to identify databases of parasites at the genetic level important in the world, including parasites circulating in Iraq, as well as to identify databases of medical parasites and how to use them in studies specialized in molecular parasitology.
The lecturer discussed the importance of genes for the parasitic organism and the properties of each gene in terms of the sequence of nitrogenous bases, proteins and genetic variants at the level of the gene when compared with the same genes found in other organisms, pointing to the important metabolic pathways for each parasite and the enzymes of importance controlling this pathway, especially important for therapy.
