The College of Nursing at the University of Baghdad has organized a workshop entitled (Obstacles to Empowering Iraqi Women at Work) in the presence of a number of faculty members and undergraduate students. The workshop aimed to identify the obstacles to women’s empowerment that can be summarized as social, economic and political factors that affect their role at work and in the society.
The workshop also included several themes, including women’s rights in the Iraqi Constitution of 2005, which guaranteed women’s rights without discrimination on the basis of gender, including the right to own property, right to education, health care, economic participation, women’s right to have a decent life, security and freedom, occupy political participation and leadership positions. In the workshop, the participants called for designing training programs to increase women’s confidence and administrative abilities so that they can excel in various economic, social and political fields and to raise the awareness of society regarding the importance of women’s administrative development and the achievement of their goals.
