The Department of Chemistry, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, has held a seminar on “The Role of Chemicals in Cosmetics” in the presence of a number of students, researchers and those concerned with chemical affairs. This panel discussion aimed to introduce the toxic chemicals which can be found in counterfeit cosmetics, their impact on humans if used wrongly, how to distinguish the good brands made by sober manufacturers and the role of the standardization and quality control device in the examination and analysis of chemicals before approving their dissemination in local markets.
The panel discussion was chaired by Dr. Rawaa Abbas Mohammed who has presented a study entitled “The Role of Chemicals in Cosmetics”, then a lecture was given by by Prof. Dr. Yahya Kamal al-Bayati who talked about “Cosmetic Manufacturers” followed by a speech by the official of the protection of intellectual property and trademark of the international company (Unilever) Mr. Fouad Diaa al-Mubarak, who pointed out how to distinguish between counterfeit and original cosmetics and the mechanism of entry of goods and products into Iraq through border crossings and the need for state authorities for the sake of cooperation with law enforcement and protection agencies to detect products that can be dangerous to health and lead to diseases or increases the rate of development of resistant strains of germs.
