The Department of Regional and International Studies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies has organized a seminar on “The Role of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in the Foreign Policy Perspective towards India”, in the presence of the head of the department and a number of researchers and academics. In her paper, the researcher Dr. Nadia Abbas Fadhli addressed the importance of India to the GCC countries since it represents markets for its energy exports, as well as renewable investments for its fiscal surpluses.
Dr. Nadia Abbas pointed to the main topic, which is the prominent strategic position of the Arabian Gulf region according to the perspective of Indian foreign policy attributed to a number of reasons, perhaps the most important of which is India’s heavy dependence on Gulf energy sources relative to the growing need for them in the domestic development field, the discharge of India’s growing exports in the Gulf markets, and the conversion of hard currency to India annually estimated at billions of dollars by the Indian labor force in the Arab Gulf countries. From this standpoint, we find that India attaches a great priority and importance to the process of consolidating its relations with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and its keenness on the security and stability of this region in light of the tensions and crises witnessed from time to time.
