The Department of Earth Science in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, has organized a workshop entitled “Foundations and skills of dealing with dust storm samples” in the presence of the dean of the college, Prof. Dr. Abdul Karim al-Qazzaz, the head of earth science and a number of students, researchers and guests concerned with remote sensitization, geography and the environment. The workshop aimed to identify the file of climate change, which is one of the very important topics as it affects the future of countries and peoples and Iraq, which was classified as one of the countries negatively affected by these changes, which were reflected in several things, including the spread of the phenomenon of desertification and its increase in the area of agricultural land and its decrease, as well as a decrease in water imports and rainfall and an increase in the frequency and occurrence of dust storms.
The workshop, which was presented by Dr. Hassan Katouf, included how to deal with the samples of dust storms collected from all governorates of Iraq and the analysis of dust atoms and sand dunes that carry them and their effects on the environment, man and agriculture as one of the dangerous things affecting public health and the spread of respiratory diseases in light of climate changes, indicating that the movement of scientific research must be activated in order to understand these changes and try to find solutions that mitigate their negative effects. At the end of the workshop, the dean of the college of science distributed the certificates of appreciation among the participants in the workshop from the head of the department, lecturers, graduate students and teachers, thanking them for establishing this important activity based on the fact that the College of Science puts its services at the service of researchers in order to develop the movement of scientific research to serve the educational process in the country.
