The Department of Empowerment Research and Capacity Building at the Center for Women’s Studies held an online workshop entitled “Rumor Terrorism in the Shadow of Crises” via the Google Meet service, which included discussing the nature of vaccines and their effects on women as perceived by specialists in the fields of medicine, psychology and sociology so as to learn more about the most important information and latest reports on the need for taking the vaccine of Covid-19 pandemic and the reasons behind the hesitation or rejection of being vaccinated.
Dr. Reem Khamis Mahdi presented a research paper entitled “The psychological features and demographic factors of individuals reluctant to take the vaccine”, in which she addressed the most important psychological characteristics that stand as a barrier or reluctance to take vaccines, as well as the most important demographic factors represented by gender, age, economic factor, social environment and political support, or the level of religious extremism that is among the factors influencing the decision to take the vaccine according to psychological surveys. Then, the researcher and official of the Scientific Affairs Division at the center, Assist. lecturer Hiba Abdul Mohsen Abdul Kareem, presented a paper on “Community fear of receiving the Covid-19 vaccine” in which she addressed the role of the media in spreading terror and fear in this case, so she recommended to combat the negative role of social media platforms in the transmission of lies and the dissemination of rumors, along with the significant role of educational workshops, public lectures and television interviews with specialists in this aspect.
