The Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with Ibn Sina Unit at the College of Pharmacy, held an online workshop entitled (Cell Transplantation: Uses, Techniques and Best Practices) delivered by the lecturer Dr. Shayma Abdul Zahra Majed from the branch of clinical laboratory science.

She at first defined this term that means the transplantation of any part of organ, tissue, embryos, single cells, etc., in sterile food mediums and not in its natural environment, and this technique is one of the rapidly developing biotechnologies for its scientific applications such as the production of medically or industrially important pharmaceutical substances, the preservation of genetic sources, the ease of stimulating mutation, the selection of beneficial mutations and the production of hybrids. The workshop also included sterilization processes, preparation of implants, how to grow cancer cells and sustain their growth within the laboratory, the process of exposing cancer cells to therapeutic preparations and drugs, in addition to studying the criteria for the toxic effects of drugs on cancer cells, how to freeze cells or preserving in the cell bank and reuse them when needed, as well as identifying the future perspective of the development of cell, stem transplantation, nanotechnology techniques and their therapeutic applications.
