Prof. Dr. Riad Zuhair al-Zubaidi, a lecturer from the department of water resources engineering at the University of Baghdad, has participated in the joint Iraqi-Syrian meeting held in Damascus, Syria, related to the formation of a joint coordination committee between the two parties so as to design an electronic platform or a database for sharing of research and knowledge in the areas of water resources, environment and sustainable development, how to develop capacities, exchange experiences and communicate with international organizations to implement studies and applied research, support the integrated management of water resources technically and financially, spread community awareness as well as establish and develop water monitoring stations, in addition to establishing climatic stations.

They also shed light on the International Hydrological Program aimed at learning how to face common challenges at the local and international levels. It is worth mentioning that the participating delegation was headed by His Excellency the Minister of Water Resources with the participation of the Iraqi Minister of Environment, the Ministers of Local Administration, Environment and Higher Education, the Chairman of the Syrian Planning, the International Cooperation Commission and the Secretary-General of the International Hydrological Program to discuss the mechanisms of implementation of the operational plan during its ninth phase, which deals with the fields of scientific research, innovation, water education, sustainability, filling data and knowledge gaps, integrated management of water resources under the conditions of climate change, water governance, confronting  various challenges in this regard based on scientific foundations.
