Prof. Dr. Taghreed Hashim al-Noor, a lecturer from the department of chemistry at the college of education for pure and applied sciences (Ibn Al-Haitham) has got a patent on packaging, in cooperation with experts from the Industrial Research and Development Authority at the Ministry of Industry and Minerals that is issued by the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control. It was entitled (Improving the specifications of plastic packaging in the preservation of materials) that addressed using plastics used in the processes of packaging materials that may be affected by loss or moisture. In this research, the process of reinforcing the LOW Density Polyethene (LDPE) locally produced with nano-foam silicon dioxide. The results showed an improvement in mechanical and thermal qualities, resistance to sunlight and permeability of water vapor and oxygen as a result of filling the gaps with the micro-inorganic materials.
