Prof. Dr. Talal Khalifa Salman Al-Obeidi, a faculty member from the department of Arabic language at the college of education for women, has authored a book entitled: (The semiotics of blood and death in the Husseini renaissance) that falls in five chapters. The first chapter dealt with the semiotic units of blood, while the second chapter focused on the semiotic signs indicating killing, the third dealing with death, the fourth chapter included information on the semiotic units of martyrdom and the last chapter focused on other semiotic units indicative of death.
The book aims to study the symbols of blood, death and martyrdom in the events of the Husseini renaissance and the texts or narratives of Imam Hussein (PBUH) or by his family and companions as well as by his enemies, where the events and texts of that renaissance were full of the mention of blood and death since Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) had a special philosophical view towards death. The author even attempted to explain and study this topic by employing the mechanisms of semiotic analysis of texts.
