The department of astronomy and space, in cooperation with the continuing education unit at the college of science at the University of Baghdad, has organized an online lecture entitled ” Artemis project: a scientific ambition for the settlement of the Moon” with the participation of a number of students and researchers in astronomical and space affairs.

The lecture aimed to introduce the mission of a spaceflight venture of NASA, in coordination with US commercial space carriers, as well as international partners such as the European Space Agency (ESA), targeted towards landing on the South Pole of the Moon by 2024.The Artemis program will serve as the first step to the long-term goal of establishing a sustainable presence on the Moon, laying the foundation for private companies to build economies on and eventually sending humans to Mars. The lecture was presented by Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdul Razzaq Salman who talked about NASA’s mission and how to develop clear perceptions about the shape of returning to the Moon by placing flags and footprints on, indicating that the Artemis mission will be the beginning of a sustainable presence on the Moon with the aim of providing life and work there for astronauts from around the world, stressing that ESA is working to gather the necessary expertise and take women for the first time to the Moon.
