The department of computer science at the University of Baghdad in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, has organized a specialized course entitled “Cybersecurity” in the presence of the assistant rector for scientific affairs, Prof. Dr. Marwan Abdul Hamid Ashour and the dean of the college, Prof. Dr. Abdul Karim al-Qazzaz. This event aimed at introducing the faculty members of the department of computer science at the faculties of science at the Universities of Baghdad and Mosul to the concept of cybersecurity which involves a number of technical means and administrative regulations that are put in place to prevent unauthorized or the misuse of electronic information and communication systems and how to recover them by taking the necessary measures to protect individuals from the dangers of cyberspace, represented by the protection of computers, phones, smart devices, Internet transmitters, local Internet networks as well as cloud storage tools, in addition to addressing curricula developed by the international universities competing in this field.
The lectures were given by the international cyber expert Mr. Tony Willenberg, and where the sessions were chaired by the head of the department of computer science, Assist. Prof. Dr. Nada Abdul Zahra, in which the lecture talked about the areas of using cybersecurity and its future prospects to keep pace with advanced universities, indicating the importance of protecting information, whether personal or affiliated to companies, departments or institutions at the public or private sectors, stressing that communities at the present witnessing an increase in the use of computers, Internet and smart devices that all need to be secured and the importance of maintaining sources of information that may help in detecting online crimes, cyberattacks, the most prominent types of threat and the most vulnerable groups and ways to protect them. It is worth mentioning that the department of computer science at the University of Baghdad, has introduced the study of higher diploma equivalent to the master degree in cybersecurity that would be initiated the next academic year, through the development of academic programs in computer security for postgraduate studies, in the quest to provide institutions with the specialties of data security, towards the employment of graduate research to find solutions to security challenges in life.
