The Women’s Studies Center at the University of Baghdad has organized, in cooperation with the Department of Women’s Empowerment at the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Al-Araqah Foundation for Culture and Development and the Arab Forum for Women’s Studies and Training, a scientific conference entitled (Modern Trends in Women’s Empowerment) at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad.
The conference was opened with a speech delivered by His Excellency the minister of youth & sports, Captain Adnan Darjal, in which he talked about the great and vital role of women in the community. Then the director of the women’s studies center, Assist. Prof. Dr. Athraa Ismail chaired one of the sessions of this event, shedding light on the activities of the center, which is the first in Iraqi universities, that are concerned with scientific research in line with its educational objectives, also pointing out that the center consists of three departments (policies, legislation and the international community research) that seek to study societal phenomena and fill the shortage in research and studies directed towards women and she stated that the center welcomes all events and initiatives that contribute to building our dear country, our young women and men for a better future so as to enjoy peace. The conference witnessed the presentation of fifteen research papers that focused on several topics, the most important of which are women’s rights in Islamic law, women’s empowerment, the role of women in political leadership and obstacles to women’s access to administrative positions in state institutions distributed over two sessions.
