The Medical and Biological Applications Branch at the Laser Institute for Postgraduate Studies held a workshop entitled (Laser and optical operations) that was presided over by the head of the branch, lecturer Dr. Laila Mohamed Hassan, and delivered by the lecturer Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Hassan, a specialist in eye surgery.

The lecturer presented a simplified overview of the anatomy of the eye, its method, the method of vision, the most important common refractive errors such as myopia, farsightedness, astigmatism, methods of treating these errors and the role of the laser in modern vision correction operations. Dr. Ahmed touched on a brief overview of the development of laser uses in these operations starting from the first generation or the operations of surface skimming of the cornea and ending with the third generation and the techniques of femto laser (femto lasik, relex or femtocell) through the second generation technology or the so-called LASIK. The lecture also addressed the most important similarities and differences between these three techniques, their benefits and determinants and how to choose the appropriate process for each case.
