The Department of Home Economics at the College of Education for Women, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit held a virtual scientific workshop entitled (Artificial and natural sweeteners used as sugar substitutes) presented by Assist. The scientific workshop aimed to highlight the types of sugars, including sucrose (table sugar) as the most widespread and used natural sweetener, although sucrose is not suitable for diabetics, as well as that eating it in large quantities causes weight gain, nutritional obesity, heart disease and tooth decay, which called for the use of sugar substitutes and sugar substitutes are characterized by being colorless, odorless, quick to dissolve and constant that does not give energy when used and the individual can reduce the rate of calories per day With about 200 calories if its use of 50 grams of sugar is replaced by one of the alternatives to sugar that is non-existent or low in calories and the types of sugars of various types are touched upon.
