The University of Baghdad won recently the first position locally according to the July edition of Webometrics Ranking of World Universities for the second half of 2022 by getting the (1710) rank globally according to the indicators obtained during this month. Then the University of Diyala came in the second place (1799) followed by al-Mustansiriyah University (2578) out of 11994 universities around the world that have been competed in this ranking.

It is noteworthy that the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab which is a research group belonging to (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain and it is issued every six months based on the most updated and useful information about the performance of universities from all over the world, namely visibility (50%), transparency (or openness) (10%) and excellence (or scholar) (40%). The Iraqi universities and colleges have witnessed an escalating competition in various international rankings, including the Shanghai Ranking of Academic Subjects, in which the University of Baghdad appeared within the chemical engineering discipline, the  Times Higher Education World University Rankings in which there are currently four Iraqi universities, QS World University Rankings in which there are five Iraqi universities, the SCImago Journal Rank indicator in which there are currently twenty-two local institutions, as well as the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings in which sixty-six Iraqi universities and colleges have already entered, also the University Ranking by Academic Academic Performance that witnessed the entry of four Iraqi universities and finally the Webometrics Ranking with the entry of 99 Iraqi universities and colleges this year.
