The Department of Biology, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, has organized a lecture entitled “Antibiotic allergy tests using different methods” in the presence of a number of postgraduate students concerned with pharmaceutical and medical affairs. The lecture aimed to introduce scholars interested in studying the sensitivity of bacteria to antibiotics and the modern methods used globally in this regard, which include VITEK testing of bacteria, whether positive or negative Gram stain bacteria.

The lecture was presented by Assist. Prof. Dr. Inas Ghassan who addressed how to read and arrange the results and determine the minimum inhibitory concentrations of each antibiotic and how to detect the resistance genes via PCR technology for many antibiotic groups. At the conclusion of the lecture, Dr. Inas Ghassan recommended to comply to the doctor’s instruction when taking antibiotics used to treat or prevent some types of bacterial infection, as well as the need for reducing their use and taking natural substances such as herbs.
