The Department of Biology at the College of Science has organized a scientific lecture entitled “Applications of Bacteriocins” in the presence of a number of undergraduate and postgraduate students concerned with this subject. The lecture aimed at the importance of the use of bacteriocins and their applications in various medical and therapeutic fields, as they have positive ions not affected by disinfectants with negative or non-ion charge and these vital substances disrupt the cytoplasm membrane of cells sensitive to the effect of bacteriocin.
The lecture, presented by the Assist. Prof. Dr. Mays Emad Ahmed, included identifying the uses of bactrocin as an anti-inflammatory in wounds and burns, which is also used as a bacterial and fungal antagonist on a large scale, its practical applications in the food industry and preservation due to the consideration of bactrocin as a protein substance, where some high partial weight bactrocins can be used as excellent antigens.
