The Biological Research Unit, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, organized a virtual scientific lecture entitled “Insulin resistance”, with the participation of a number of students, professors and professionals in medicine and nutrition. The lecture aimed to identify one of the medical conditions in which the natural insulin in the body is less able to reduce the level of glucose in blood, and what causes it to raise the level of glucose above normal rates, as insulin plays a vital role in different types of cells such as fat cells and muscles that need to help them absorb glucose, and provide energy.
The lecture that was delivered by Assist. lecturer Noor al-Huda Fakhri has included a presentation on individuals who are resistant to insulin when their liver fails to perform its function by regulating glucose levels, which in the body directly affects the cells of the body and causes the emergence of many diseases, pointing out the importance of distinguishing between insulin resistance and diabetes, pointing out that insulin resistance may have an early symptom of diabetes, and what it happens to non-diabetic individuals.
