The Women’s Empowerment Committee at the College of Media, in collaboration with the Isen Organization for Human Rights and Sustainable Development, held an interactive symposium entitled “Child marriage and its effects on the community fabric”, under the supervision of Dr. Rana al-Shujairi, head of the committee. The seminar was presented by the president of this organization Ms. Ansam Salman, Ms. Ruaa Faeix, a member of the organization and the legal expert at the organization Mr. mohammed Juma, in the presence of the assistant dean for scientific affairs Prof. D. Ali al-Shammari, with a number of professors interested in this issue.

The participants dealt with several topics, including the reasons behind the recent increase of this phenomenon and its dangers to the community fabric, as well as the effects of underage marriage on women in particular and the family as a whole that might cause an increase in divorces and suicides. In conclusion, the lecturers answered the questions asked by the audience and discussed some possible solutions to reduce this phenomenon in the country.
