The Al-Khwarizmi college of engineering at the University of Baghdad has organized an educational symposium entitled “Gender-based violence” in collaboration with Women for Peace Association. The symposium dealt with various topics, the most important of which is gender-based violence and its relationship to the social role of male and female, and society’s perception of them, their role and their relationship with each other, as it is closely linked to the social structure of customs and traditions that may be unjust.

A number of faculty members and students have participated in this event by their enriched and meaningful remarks since it is part of the Women’s Empowerment Program aimed at awareness raising, capacity building and networking activities to build effective regional cooperation between the relevant stakeholders to advance gender equality and women’s rights in Europe, Middle East and Africa, especially in the countries that have gone through various circumstances of intermittent wars, instability, displacement and disorder that all increase the likelihood of gender-based violence.
