The University of Baghdad has recorded a new competitive position in the QS World University Rankings in its 2023 version issued lately, where it got the (801-1000) position globally and the first one locally and Al-Mustansiriyah University in the (1001-1200) position, the University of Kufa in the (1001-1200) position, the University of Babylon in the (1201+) and finally the University of Basrah in the (1201+) position.

It is noteworthy that the QS World University Rankings evaluate university institutions based on the following criteria: academic peer review (40%), employer reputation (10%), faculty/student ratio (20%), citations per faculty (20%), international staff ratio (5%) and international student ratio (5%). Also the Iraqi universities and colleges has witnessed an increased competition in global academic rankings, namely the Times Higher Education World University Rankings in which there are currently 4 Iraqi universities included; the SCIMAGO Institutions Rankings which has 22 Iraqi institutions listed in; the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, in which there are 66 Iraqi universities and colleges; the University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) in which there are 4 Iraqi universities, as well as the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities that witnessed the competition of 89 Iraqi universities and colleges.
