The master’s student, Assist. lecturer Ahmed Maktouf Wadi, and the professor at the department of chemistry, Prof. Dunia Aidan Mohammed, have obtained a patent issued by the Central Agency for Standardization and Quality Control of the Ministry of Planning, dealt with the use of nanomaterials manufactured in a green way and used for the adsorption of water pollutants.
The patent is entitled “Synthesis of zinc nanooxide from the local Lycium shawii roem”, aimed at using Iraqi plant materials to create environmentally friendly biochemical nanomaterials to reduce water pollution from colored organic pollutants through an adsorption technology, which is a very important topic since the environmental pollution is the main concern of all researchers in research centers and international universities in developed countries, due to rising water crises resulting from pollution, which prompts researchers and all countries of the world to look for eco-friendly technologies to get rid of. The study included the search for local Iraqi plants containing flavonoid compounds and Phenols sufficient to lower and stabilize nanomaterials at very small measurements through an extensive survey and study to search for the appropriate plants used for the first time that were of standards conforming to the American standards (ASTM D7851) and the European standards.
