Assist. Prof. Dr. Basma Qasim Hassan, a professor from the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnologies for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad, has published recently a research paper entitled (The multiplicity of models of the AHSP gene and its relationship to thalassemia in Iraqi patients) in the Iranian the Archives of Razi Institute Journal listed in the Scopus database.
This research is authored jointly with the doctoral student Munther Adnan Khalaf with the aim to verify the multiplicity of forms of the gene (rs44992522) in Iraqi samples, where data were obtained from 90 patients who suffer from Beta Thalassemia along with 60 other individuals who appeared to be apparently healthy as a control group. It is noteworthy that blood samples were obtained from Wasit Genetic Anemia Center from August 2020 to January 2021. The results showed a moral increase (0.05≥p) in the GG genotype (wild type) of (SNP) among Beta Thalassemia patients compared to the control group.
