The Psychological & Educational guidance Unit at the College of Islamic Sciences, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and the Iraqi Association for Educational and Psychological Studies, has organized a symposium entitled ( The phenomenon of drug use and its mental effects on young people) with the aim to emphasize all efforts needed to contain this issue by initiating action programs and targeted activities so as to provide as many opportunities as possible to succeed in overcoming and controlling this problem, and to establish fruitful and effective cooperation that stems from determination to face all aspects of the problem at all levels by increasing the awareness of young people and undergraduate students against this scourge in addition to creating a community culture in this regard via guidance, prevention and treatment campaigns.
The lectures were delivered by the Colonel Bilal Sobhi, the director of information at the Anti-Narcotics Department of the Ministry of Interior, as well as Prof. Dr. Haidar Karim al-Jazairi, President of the Iraqi Association for Educational and Psychological Studies, the Assist. Prof. Dr. Ghazwa Faisal, a member of the association’s governing body, dedicated for providing awareness information about the danger of this scourge to our community in general and the youth in particular. The lecturers stated that drug addiction is one of the most complex issues facing nations at present in spite of how the community is civilized, so there is an urgent need for confronting this deadly scourge that has various negative dimensions, affecting people’s life at the security and economic levels. The participants then called for coordinating endeavors to take care of this sensitive group of young people by guiding them until they become responsible to play their role effectively in society and to follow-up their behavior at all ages. It is noteworthy that this event was attended by Prof. Dr. Nema Dahsh Farhan, the dean of the college accompanied by his assistant for scientific affairs, Prof. Dr. Thaer Ibrahim Khudhair.
