In the presence of a great academic gathering, the college of science at the University of Baghdad has celebrated the graduation of the 71st student session, with the participation of the former minister of higher education and scientific research Prof. Dr. Ali al-Adib and the rector of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Munir Hamid al-Saadi and his assistant for administrative affairs, Prof. Dr. Sarmad Fouad along with a large number of faculty members, students and employees.
Prof. Dr. Munir Hamid al-Saadi, stressed in his opening speech that the graduation of students this year carries with it a challenge for all circumstances facing us in order to achieve knowledge and integration in pure sciences and humanities by combining all the efforts of hundreds of lecturers and staff who resisted the circumstances and challenges during the pandemic, so education transformed to online courses for undergraduate students while it remained in classrooms for postgraduate students as a whole. Then the rector of the University of Baghdad congratulated the graduate students by saying, “Here you are harvesting the fruits of years of hard work in study and today we celebrate by you have achieved, blessed you and your parents; we appreciate your efforts dedicated for seeking knowledge and perseverance to achieve your dream that would not have been attained without God, you have challenged disease, epidemic and time to excel in most difficult circumstances that the world has witnessed”.
The dean of the college of science, Prof. Dr. Abdul Karim al-Qazzaz, also gave a speech in which he addressed the achievements of the professors and students of the college within the last two years, including opening up to state institutions through joint cooperation with Baghdad province and the secretariat of Baghdad Municipality by providing solutions and addressing the obstacles to both parties in addition to benefiting from mutual cooperation between the holy Husseini and Abbasid thresholds to enhance the skills of our dear students towards improving the educational process in Iraq. He added that the college also sought to provide employment opportunities for its distinguished students and encouraging them to complete their postgraduate studies through twinning programs, scholarships or research missions in sober scientific universities, also it inaugurated this year the seismic monitoring laboratory.
It is noteworthy that the ceremony started with playing of the Iraqi national anthem, and Surah Al-Fatiha in honor of the souls of the martyrs of Iraq, as well as some artistic and cultural events, honoring the former minister of higher education and scientific research Prof. Ali al-Adib, the rector of the University of Baghdad, the assistant rector for administrative affairs, the dean and his assistants for administrative, scientific and student affairs, as well as heads of departments and a number of distinguished faculty members and the ceremony’s introducer, Assist. Prof. Dr. Nada al-Abedi, in alignment with honoring top students of various pure and applied disciplines.
