The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Bio-Technologies for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad has organized a workshop on the “Safe Methods for Laboratory Waste Disposal” that was given by the lecturers Noor Saad Latif and Rafal Jassim Obeid with the participation of 188 researchers via the FCC platform. The workshop aimed to clarify and summarize the best methods and methods that provide health security when disposing of waste in laboratories.

The workshop recommended the development of programs related to safe and sound management for the disposal of medical and research waste in universities. The lecturers stressed the permanent training of workers, researchers and students on methods of disposal of medical waste by type, quantity and methods used for treatment and destruction. They also stressed the importance of conducting advanced scientific and research studies in the field of waste management and including them in the vocabulary of the curriculum in universities and within student research projects, the development of a laboratory waste management plan, the issuance of institutional policies and guidelines, the allocation of human and financial resources, the implementation of plans according to a specific schedule, as well as the periodic training, monitoring, evaluation and continuous improvement program.
