Assist. Prof. Dr. Sabah Sami Dawood and Assist. Prof. Dr. Hussam Abdul Amir from the collge of law at the University of Baghdad have participated in a symposium entitled (European Union Advisory Mission in Iraq); also known as EUAM Iraq that was organized to protect Iraq’s cultural heritage. Dr. Sabah Sami’s participation was represented by a research paper entitled “The penal protection of Iraqi cultural heritage”, while Dr. Hussam Abdul Amir discussed in his study Iraq’s intangible cultural heritage between ambition and reality. This event aimed to address national and international legal issues related to the legal framework for protecting our cultural heritage as well as developing theoretical and practical solutions in this regard. It is noteworthy that the EU’s approach to protecting heritage during conflicts and crises depends on the protection and promotion of such a heritage as a contributing factor to peace, reconciliation and mutual understanding in all nations.
