His Excellency, the minister of higher education and scientific research Dr. Nabil Kazem Abdul Sahib has recently announced, during his speech at a ceremony sponsored by the World Bank, the launch of the World Bank’s grant to support new projects of the higher education in Iraq, in the presence of rectors and representatives of Iraqi universities. This event was held for that sake of reviewing the indicators and financial allocations of all universities and explaining that the educational environment of any university is expanding in general and witnessing a remarkable turnout due to the rapid rate of population growth, so the participants pointed out that the financial aspect represents a challenge to the ministry of higher education and scientific research in general and to its university institutions in particular.

As part of its strategy extending until 2030, His Excellency, the minister of higher education has set an urgent goal of developing specialized scientific universities suitable for the labor market and benefiting from partnership and coordination with international donors. For his part, Andreas Blom, the Manager in the World Bank’s Education Global Practice across the Middle East and North Africa, has stated that the World Bank has worked with its partners in the Iraqi government over the past two years to prepare a specific support for higher education as being an important sector in Iraq known for its heritage and educational and scientific standing. He added that $5 million is granted by the World Bank to our country that will contribute to providing training environments in universities and new laboratories and provide the community with priority specialties, particularly renewable energies, health, agriculture and electricity, stressing that the World Bank is committed to this initiative to develop and improve the quality of education in Iraq.
