The Ibn Sina E-Learning Unit, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, held a virtual training course entitled “The way research is published in scientific journals” with the participation of a number of postgraduate students, scholars and members of promotion committees. The aim of the course was to identify developments related to the requirements for publication of academic studies, and the conditions applicable in publishing sober journals with impact factor (IF) for the sake of upgrading the knowledge of professors and researchers as well as to reach at accurate results that might in turn improve the reputation and the scientific status of the University of Baghdad in international rankings.

The course, which was presented by Assist. Prof. Dr. Istabraq Talib Abdullah and Assist. Prof. Dr. Iraq Tariq Abbas, aimed also to highlight the journal impact factor (JIF) of any academic journal as being a scientometric index calculated by Clarivate and that reflects the yearly mean number of citations of articles published in the last two years in a given journal within Thomson Reuters and Scopus databases, in addition to the percentage of applied research carried out within a given scientific research plan that addresses local industrial or economic problems besides others. The lecturers stated that global universities and research centers seek to publish the results of their scientific research in well-established periodicals which adopt sober scientific standards as well as conference proceedings in order to share and integrate academic knowledge, pointing out such periodicals are an important outlet of information available in libraries and information centers, i.e, the specialized libraries.
