The Department of Animal Production at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences has organized a scientific symposium entitled “The reality of fisheries in Iraq: problems and solutions), in which the attendees touched on the fisheries and their development and the possibility of growing fish in a way that meets the requirements and needs of the population, as well as explaining the reasons for the rise of sources of water pollution and overfishing, especially in the period of reproduction and the activation of laws to reduce this phenomenon.
This event started with a lecture delivered by the dean of the college, Dr. Kazim Daili Hassan, in the prresenvce of his assistants for student affairs Dr. Mohammed Shaker Al-Khashali, administrative and finance affairs Dr. Menem Khamis Mikhlif and the head of the department of animal production Dr. Amira Mohammed Saleh, in addition to a number of professors and students of undergraduate & postgraduate studies. A lecture was given by Dr. Mohammed Shaker al-Khashali on (The possibility of fish farming with rice in Iraq), in which he addressed the possibility of growing rice in areas designated for fish farming.
Another lecture was delivered by Dr. Khalil Ibrahim Saleh from Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University entitled “The reality of fish farming in Iraq”, in which he asserted that fish farming is the best solution in the country by providing dedicated basins for fish and training farmers on who to make use of new techniques. Then Dr. Jamal Khalaf Attia, gave a lecturer entitled “The recent fish death: causes and means of prevention), in which he showed the causes of the sudden death of carp farmed in the Middle Euphrates region due to the presence of mysterious contamination in the water caused by fungal diseases that have increased a lot recently.
