The college of pharmacy at the University of Baghdad has organized an online workshop entitled “Unregistered medicines in the private sector” delivered by the lecturer Dr. Ali Aziz Ali from the Clinical Pharmacy Branch, in the presence of the lecturer Dr. Salam Waheed Ajil the head of the department of pharmacy at Al-Zahrawi University College in the Holy Karbala.
The workshop included a summary of the possible causes and solutions to the phenomenon of unregistered medicines in the private sector, where this problem may cause the destabilization of confidence in medicines, the threat of trust between patients and health care providers in addition to social and economic consequences. It was also discussed the importance of establishing a special body dealing with medicine in Iraq, especially in private sector medicines, as well as the need to increase the number of drug testing centers under the supervision of the ministry of health and applying the electronic system in pharmacies so as to track the resources of medicines to reduce them. Finally, the speakers praised the tremendous efforts made by the ministry of health and asked for the cooperation of health care providers from pharmacists and physicians in reducing this negative phenomenon by educating citizens to avoid anonymous medicines, even at reduced prices.
