Assist. Prof. Dr. Mawlood Abbas Ali Al-Gharibawi, a faculty member at the college of veterinary medicine has participated in the proceedings of the 36th session of the Regional Conference for the Near East (NERC) 2021-2022 that discussed many topics related to agricultural production in the animal and vegetarian sectors, environmental and climate challenges facing food security, food safety, sustainable agriculture and antimicrobial resistance, as well as the importance of health in the Near East and North Africa countries and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on various aspects of life in general.
During his lecture, Dr. Mawlood Abbas explained the importance of adopting a single health approach to crisis management and biological risks within the human sectors, animal health and environmental safety, and also addressed the challenges and obstacles facing the application of the concept of one health due to the lack of cooperative programs between the relevant sectors and the lack of full communication between them and insufficient training in this area, as well as lack of funding and support as well as the lack of a unified vision of the approach in the health and economic aspects of the world. It is worth mentioning that the college of veterinary medicine has carried out and sponsored many conferences, seminars and scientific lectures on the concept of one health in cooperation with the University of Basel in Switzerland, which dealt with many common diseases such as Rabies, Bovine Tuberculosis (TB), Brucella, Hydatid and Covid-19 with the participation of many physicians from the ministries of agriculture, health as well as other institutions related to human health, animal and environment.
