Assist. Prof. Dr. Wafaa Sabri Mahood, a faculty member from the department of biology at the college of education for pure & applied sciences (Ibn al-Haitham) has reached at a major scientific achievement by publishing the complete genetic sequence of Vibrio Cholerae bacteria within an Iraqi research team.

The importance of this publication is due to the fact that it is a sober reference for the study of cholera-related bacteria, monitoring genetic alterations and keeping up with developments in the genes of pathogenic bacterial strains for the purpose of identifying pathological factors as well as their development during their spread between countries, which leads to the possibility of controlling this disease and reducing its spread globally. The research team also  recorded the whole nucleotide sequence of the isolated bacteria genome from one of the hospitals of Baghdad during the outbreak of infections that appeared at the end of 2017, (CP093427) & (CP093426) at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) entitled (Vibrio Cholerae Q1 biovar El Tor strain – Chromosomes 1 and 2). This achievement is considered as a very distinguished breakthrough and the first of its kind in Iraq.
