The Center for the Revival of Arab Scientific Heritage at the University of Baghdad has organized a workshop entitled “Tolerance and its impact on internal stability”, chaired by Assist. Prof. Dr. Wassan Hussein Mohimeed and the Pastor of the National Evangelical Baptist Church the Father Ara Badalian, who talked about “Tolerance and the impact on individual internal stability in Christianity”. He asserted that the concept of “tolerance/forgiveness” is a central concept of Christian faith and belief, as Christian biblical texts refer to tolerance/forgiveness, referring to grace which can be defined as an “undeserved gift” and in Syriac translation comes in the sense of “mercy”.
Dr. Wassan also spoke about the concept of tolerance in Qur’anic discourse and its impact on societal stability between religions, and her research paper stated that the Islamic vision and the first Islamic historical experience are all facts and contents that confirm the values of partnership and mutual respect among the people of the great monotheistic religions. Also she briefly presented the Qur’an’s discourse to follow the divine religions, which contains the essential points of honoring man, recognizing the other, tolerance and freedom of faith, reciting some Qur’anic verses in this regard and their meanings.
