The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Women at the University of Baghdad has organized an electronic training course entitled “Environmental pollution and ways to address” delivered by Dr. Nazek Sobhi Matar, head of the continuing education unit, in cooperation and coordination with the College of Education for Pure & Applied Sciences (Ibn al-Haitham).
The aim of the course was to explain the concept of pollution, which is the introduction of pollutants into the natural environment, which cause negative change, showing the most important forms of pollution, namely air pollution, light, garbage, noise, plastic, soil, radiation, heat, optic, water pollution and others. The course also noted the importance of addressing environmental pollution and its benefits of reducing pollution, protecting the environment, reducing global warming, preserving natural resources, reducing landfills, creating jobs and reducing energy consumption, noting the costs and requirements of addressing pollution, the most important of which are large capital, unhealthy and unsafe recycling sites and some recycled products that are not good. The course came up with a set of recommendations, the most important of which is to raise awareness to show the importance of recycling materials after their use on the environment, to conserve resources and reduce their flow, as well as to reduce energy consumption by extending the life of the product by recycling it, protecting land used as garbage dumps by reducing waste, protecting the environment from materials and toxic emissions from extractive and transformational industries, intensifying clean-up efforts in order to address pollution and enjoy a clean and healthy environment.
