The University of Baghdad has celebrated the graduation of the 64th Peace and Development Session for the academic year (2020-2021) in a great ceremony held at the college of physical education and sports sciences in al-Jadriyah campus under the slogan “Our learning is our goal” amid a large academic gathering that witnessed the presence of His Excellency the Iraqi Minister of Interior, Mr. Othman Al-Ghanmi and representatives of the ministry of higher education and scientific research, as well as rectors of a number of Iraqi universities, deans of colleges, a number of public figures and decision makers.
During the opening speech, Prof. Dr. Munir Hamid al-Saadi, rector of the University of Baghdad stated the slogan adopted for the graduation of these elite students this year symbolizes the challenges that all faculty members and students faced in the course of the study as well all the circumstances that our country gone through in order to gain knowledge in various applied & pure sciences, humanities and other disciplines by combining the efforts of hundreds of professors and employees, many of whom spent most of their lives in the service of our university and its students. He added that the University of Baghdad has achieved advanced positions in international higher education rankings and that it snatched the spotlight in the most Arab and regional academic competitions, so he congratulated our dear students saying that: “Today you are reaping the fruits of years of hard work on the study benches, congratulations on your big day, bless you and your parents and best of luck on your new beginnings. May you have a new future filled all you seek, we’re so proud of you and have the honor to celebrate graduation day with you, your quest and perseverance to realize your dream, which you have always hoped to achieve and that would not have been without the reconciliation of God, now came true after you have challenged disease, epidemic and time, with your determination to succeed and excel in the most difficult circumstances the world has ever seen”.
In the same context, a consultant and representative of the minister of higher education and scientific research, Dr. Alaa al-Hassan stressed in his speech that all Iraqi universities, led by the prestigious University of Baghdad, have never failed to perform their duties, functions and responsibilities in delivering the message of education and knowledge and promoting scientific research in Iraq in addition to developing policies to serve the community, praising the teaching faculty and their scientific impact and active role in facing various challenges and their rapid and thoughtful adaptation to the variables of the critical health situation. It is noteworthy that the ceremony began with the playing of the Iraqi national anthem and the military musical choir, then a parade of the graduates preceded by their professors and the top students and representatives of different colleges in front of the grand ceremony platform in an atmosphere of overwhelming happiness and joy. At the conclusion of the event, the top students were honored by the rector hoping them all the best in achieving what they aspire to in the service of Iraq and its educational career.
